Congratulations to Beth Molnar of Northeastern University and her co-authors for winning Paper of the Year in Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal. Their 2016 study looked at a variety of neighborhood data in Chicago to reveal consistent associations between social processes and child maltreatment. Neighborhoods with higher collective efficacy, stronger social networks, and less disorder had fewer cases of abuse and neglect, indicating that prevention strategies at the neighborhood level may be more effective than individual- or family-focused efforts alone.
