Bernard Gerbaka

Dr. Bernard Gerbaka is a Pediatrician, Chairman of the pediatric department, Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Emergencies, Hotel-Dieu hospital, Beirut, Lebanon.

 

He is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in St. Joseph University, Beirut. In 1998, he was elected member of the City Council of Beirut. Since 2003, he is the Lebanese correspondent and co-founder of the Arab professionals' network for the prevention of child abuse and neglect http://www.apnpvac.org/. In 2008, he was re-elected councilor in the Arab network.

 

With ISPCAN, he participated in the I-CAST field test and implementation; he also contributed to the United Nations Secretary General study on violence [2004-2005] and was member of the member of the recommendations committee in the MENA regional consultation, UNSV [2005] He is also author of the report on the response of Lebanon to the UNSV-MENA recommendations.

 

In 2008 he was elected ISPCAN councilor.

 

Currently, Dr. Bernard Gerbaka is Coordinator of the Lebanese taskforce for the prevention of child abuse and neglect - and violence against children - the Higher Council for Childhood in Lebanon Higher Council for Childhood in Lebanon, an interagency and interministerial coordinating body http://www.atfalouna.gov.lb/

  • President of the Lebanese Union for Child Protection, the child protection services in Lebanon http://www.upel.org/
  • Vice-President, the University Child and Youth Observatory in Lebanon, OEIL@usj.edu.lb
  • In 2008, Dr. Bernard Gerbaka was also elected member of the board in the Lebanese Order of Physicians and President of the scientific committee.
