ISPCAN is pleased to host the 11th Virtual Issue Discussions (VIDs) on "Child Sexual Abuse: A Review of Practical Interventions from an International Perspective" to be held May 5-6, 2011 in conjunction with the Denver Round-Table discussion at the ISPCAN headquarters.
Purpose of ISPCAN's Virtual Issues Discussion (VID) Forum
The purpose of this forum is to initiate a discussion among professionals on important issues facing the field of child maltreatment. It is hoped that the VID may stimulate new thinking and offer useful ideas to professionals around the world.
Accessing the VID
The VID will take place in the Virtual Issues Discussion: Denver Round-Table group on the ISPCAN website. To access all materials, stay informed and participate in the discussion, you must join the VID Group. Joining the group is easy and can be done by going to: http://www.ispcan.org/members/group.aspx?id=76532
You will be asked to log into your ISPCAN account and follow the instructions on the page to join the private group. You can also access the group from the ISPCAN homepage> Members Only > Listserv & Groups > Virtual Issues Discussion > Denver Round Table (If you need assistance or a password or username reminder, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Denver Round-Table is an invitation only event that will assemble local, regional, and international professionals who will share expertise to support the management and prevention of child sexual abuse across country, language and cultural barriers. Those invited to participate in this event will listen to presentations by primary speakers, participate in a day-long discussion session and then contribute to a working paper on "Options for Responding to Child Sexual Abuse” which will be published by ISPCAN.
VID and Denver Round-Table
ISPCAN members will have a unique opportunity to listen to the Primary Speaker online either live or on video and participate in an online discussion forum. The online discussion will be usedan important international contribution to the working paper.
Some issues we might consider in this discussion include:
- What is the formal framework (legislation, agreements, formal and informal understandings, etc.) to manage child sexual abuse cases in your country?
- What professions, agencies, and/or institutions are responsible for addressing these cases?
- What are the problems you find most frequently? What are the obstacles or barriers faced in preventing the effective management these cases? In what ways have these problems been addressed?
- Are there aspects of the ‘evidence-based'/‘evaluated' literature about child sexual abuse that you consider to be unhelpful or irrelevant within your region, culture, or language-group? Why? What would you recommend in its place?
Denver Round-Table Primary Speakers
Dr. Arnon Bentovim (UK)
Dr. Bernard Gerbaka (Lebenon)
