ISPCAN members are invited to submit nominations for the following five awards by 15 September 2009. These awards will be presented at the 18th ISPCAN International Congress on Child Abuse and Neglect in Hawaii, 26-29 September 2010. Awardees will receive a plaque, acknowledgment on ISPCAN’s website, and recognition in ISPCAN’s newsletter, The Link. Nominees (or at least one member of the multidisciplinary team) must be ISPCAN members of good standing for two years at the time of nomination.

Nominations for the 2010 C. Henry Kempe Award and Kempe Lecture Award should detail the nominee’s accomplishments and the rational for his or her selection. For the Kempe Lecture Award, include in the statement an assessment of the nominee’s speaking abilities, the topics on which he or she can speak, and the topic’s interest/relevance to participants. Nominees for these two awards must indicate in writing their willingness to participate in the Congress. Travel expenses (airfare), accommodations, and Congress registration for the recipients of these two awards will be covered by ISPCAN and the Congress.

The C. Henry Kempe Award, established in 1984, is presented every two years by ISPCAN to an outstanding young professional or organization working in any discipline in the field of child abuse and neglect.

The Kempe Lectureship Award was established in 1986 as a major feature of ISPCAN’s international congresses.  Following the example of Dr. Kempe, the individual selected to deliver the Kempe Memorial Lecture must have made significant contributions to the welfare of children, and demonstrate teaching experience.  The 2010 Lecturer will be an invited speaker at ISPCAN’s 18th International Congress, and the Kempe Memorial Lecture may be published in Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal.

The Distinguished Career Award recognizes an outstanding professional for longstanding dedication, expertise, and contributions to the field of child abuse and neglect.

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual for his or her commitment and dedication to ISPCAN or to an ISPCAN National Partner.

The Multidisciplinary Team Award recognizes a multidisciplinary team that has made substantial progress in the treatment or prevention of child abuse and neglect in its local community. The award may be given to the team as a whole, or to the individual who developed and led the team.

The deadline for submission is 15 September 2009. Incomplete nominations will not be considered. For more information, please contact membership@ispcan.org.
