    This conference will serve as a forum for children, parents, teachers, educators, administrators, child care providers, policy makers and all concerned to share experiences and evidence-based practices in early childhood care and education, share information to guide positive policy and intervention program development on early childhood development and education, examine challenges and opportunities for early childhood development and education practices in Africa, and explore opportunities for cross-sectional cooperation in regard to early childhood development and education.

    The Sub-themes:

    Early Childhood Survival and Care
    • Health and nutrition, culture and childhood development, and emotional well-being
       in early childhood etc.

    Early Childhood Education
    • Childhood education, media and child development, children’s resources and child
       development, Best practices: providing opportunities for all children to reach their
       potential, Collaboration: working across disciplines to benefit children and families, etc.

    Early Childhood Protection
    • Child protection, vulnerability and risks in early childhood, etc.

    Child Rights and Development
    • Respect for the best interest and non-discrimination of the child, educating children
       to be socially responsible, children’s wholesome development, childhood development
       and returns, issues of research in childhood development, etc.

    Crosscutting Issues
    • Best or successful practices in any of the categories mentioned, best interest of
       the child, gender issues, monitoring and evaluation of policy implementation, rights
       and policies in childhood development, etc.

    Global Institutes have attracted many US and international professionals interested in global issues and the most recent research findings in the field of Child Abuse and Neglect in selected regions of the world. ISPCAN welcomed this opportunity to contribute to the field's body of international knowledge on issues of Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment. Our Council, Faculty and members committed to organizing the Global Institutes by providing experts from different countries, representing a multidisciplinary cross-section of the field. We believe that our CAN experts' contribution to this program was rich and valuable and provided San Diego Conference attendees with an opportunity not only to learn, but also to discuss international CAN issues and facilitate networking.

    The Annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment will be held from January 26-30, 2009.
