Japan conjures up all sorts of images just at the mention of its name – everything from geisha in beautiful kimonos to skyscrapers covered in neon lights — there is so much that you can find only in Japan, including the XXth ISPCAN International Congress on Child Abuse and Neglect!

The Japanese are known the world over for their courtesy and consideration of others, and especially of visitors, their attention to detail and their superb organisational skills. JaSPCAN and ISPCAN are looking forward to welcoming you from September 14-17, 2014 to Nagoya, Japan for this major event.

The theme for the XXth ISPCAN International Congress will be "Towards child-centered societies: Learn from the past, act for the future.”

Located in the centre of Japan, Nagoya is the largest city in the Chubu region. Nagoya is also the gateway to a number of major tourist locations, including Shirakawa-go world-heritage site, the nature region of Kamikochi, and the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route which drives through a road surrounded by snow walls.

Back in Nagoya you can go shopping in the city or in its underground shopping centres. In the common district of Osu, try Hitsumabushi (chopped eel on steamed rice), Miso-katsu (deepfried pork with haccho miso paste), and deep-fried chicken wings - all well-known dishes part of "Nagoya cuisine”. We hope you will take some time to visit this amazing country where the ultra-new and the ancient exist side by side and each city and region has its own distinctive history and character.
