Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to attend the 12th ISPCAN European Regional Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect which will take place on August 23-26, 2009 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The conference will be organised by the International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN) and the Department of Psychology of Saint Petersburg State University (DPSPSU).
This will be the first ISPCAN European Conference to take place on the territory of the former Soviet Union and, more specifically, in Russia. St. Petersburg is being referred to as the cultural capital of Russia and is one of the most beautiful and culturally attractive places in Europe. The theme of the conference is: “Right to Childhood: Role of Professionals in Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention”. Current information on innovative research and practical work will be discussed.
The Conference will help professionals from all over Europe to better understand and more effectively address many challenging aspects of the complex problem of child abuse and neglect in our modern society. The main topics that will be discussed during the conference are: “Evidence-based interventions in child abuse and neglect”, “Child abuse investigation and reporting”, “Foster care and adoption: Implications for child protection”, “Medical aspects of child maltreatment”, “Role of the educational system in preventing child abuse and neglect” and “Special issues in child abuse and neglect”.
The conference will be open to professionals from all disciplines involved in child abuse and neglect prevention work including psychologists, social workers, physicians, educators, legislators and law enforcement officers.
The main official language of the conference will be English with with several concurrent session streams to be delivered in Russian.
