Welcome Letter
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to invite you to attend the XVIIIth ISPCAN International Congress, which will be held in Honolulu, Hawai’i from 26th to 29th September 2010.
The Congress is being organized by the International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN) in collaboration with Kapi’olani Child Protection Center and a consortium of over 20 other Hawai’i organizations.
Hawai’i is uniquely situated on the Pacific Rim and presents an ideal place to consider issues of global relevance including: culturally competent practice; migration and immigration; the impact of war and global economic conditions on children and families; sexual trafficking; the social and environmental context of child abuse; and many other relevant issues.
The ISPCAN Congress provides a unique opportunity for professionals all over the world to meet, discuss their concerns, learn from each other, support each other, and to do so in an environment where the spirit of Aloha will refresh and reenergize professional commitment and competence to face the challenges of child abuse prevention and treatment.
Apart from preventing abuse and neglect, the theme of the XVIIIth ISPCAN Congress is “One World, One Family, Many Cultures: Strengthening Children and Families Affected by Personal, Intra-Familial and Global Conflict.”
The scientific program of the Congress will cater to colleagues ranging from those who just recently joined the field to those looking to advance in their professional knowledge and practices. The many concurrent sessions will offer participants new advances and opportunities to present innovative approaches to the subject and share well-tried evidence-based best practices. We invite all colleagues to submit abstracts at the Congress website: www.ispcan.org/Congress2010. Abstract submission deadline is 28 February 2010. The Congress social program will ensure that visitors have opportunities to enjoy our Hawaiian cultural heritage while revitalizing old, or building new, friendships. We look forward to welcoming you to Honolulu and to what will prove to be an unforgettable event. Please plan to submit an abstract and register for the Congress at www.ispcan.org/Congress2010.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Jon R. Conte, MSW, PhD Professor, School of Social Work University of Washington Congress Co-chair (ISPCAN) |
