Abstract Submission Instructions:


The person submitting the abstract will serve as the main author (the main point of contact for correspondence). It will be assumed that the main author will also deliver a presentation at the Congress.

1. Abstract submission deadline is 28 February 2010. Abstracts submitted after this date will not be considered.
2. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts online at www.ispcan.org/abstract/callforabstracts/index.asp?eventID=24. In exceptional cases, authors may write to congress2010@ispcan.org to request that an abstract form be sent to them by e-mail. However, applicants are advised to make all efforts to submit online. Correspondence will be sent to the main author only, at the e-mail address provided. It is the responsibility of the main author to notify the co-authors of all decisions, updates and reminders from ISPCAN regarding the abstract.
3. If you have already submitted an abstract for past conferences/congresses (2006: York, 2007: Lisbon or Manila, 2008: Hong Kong), you do not need to submit your personal information once again (by completing the ‘Add a speaker’ section). Instead, you should log in with the e-mail and password you created for the previous conference/congress and simply add an abstract which will automatically be considered for the XVIIIth International Congress. If you have misplaced your password, please e-mail congress2010@ispcan.org. Correspondence will be sent to the main author only, at the e-mail address provided by the author.
4. All authors of accepted abstracts are required to register for the Congress by 15 July 2010 (also the Early Bird registration deadline). Failure to do so will result in the abstract being excluded from the program. Authors are strongly encouraged to seek confirmation of sponsorship funding well in advance of this date.
5. All abstracts will be considered on the basis of individual merit by the Scientific Committee and will be ranked according to the following criteria:
 
  a. Relevance to the Congress theme, “One World, One Family, Many Cultures: Strengthening Children and Families Affected by Personal, Intra-Familial and Global Conflict”
  b. Relevance to the selected subtheme:
   
  • Cultural Perspectives in Strengthening Families and Protecting Children
  • Identifying, Treating, and Preventing Family and Sexual Violence
  • Impact of Armed Conflict on Families and Children
  • Family Strengthening: A Key to the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Youth Empowerment in the Prevention of Generational Child Abuse and Neglect
  c. Importance of content to an international audience
  d. Supported by research evidence
  e. Reflects cultural awareness, competence, and relevancy
  f. Skill development with specific skills identified
  g. Innovative program, technique or practice
  h. Reflects attention to child perspective
6. The Scientific Committee will select submissions for papers, workshops, and interactive presentations. The Scientific Committee will inform all applicants of the selection process by e-mail by 15 April 2010. Correspondence will be sent to the main author only, at the e-mail address provided by the author. The selected abstracts will be finally accepted only after the presenter’s completed registration is received. Presenters are required to pay the Congress registration fee. As a reminder, authors are encouraged to seek funding to attend the Congress well in advance of the abstract notification deadline of 15 April 2010.
7. Abstracts need to be submitted in English using the English online submission system at www.ispcan.org/abstract/callforabstracts/index.asp?eventID=24. Abstracts submitted in Spanish will be reviewed for inclusion in the Spanish Language stream of the Congress.
8. Abstracts shall not exceed 300 words. All abstracts should be single-spaced; and size 12-point Times New Roman font is preferred. Please adjust your font settings to 12-point Times New Roman before pasting on the abstract submission page.
 
  a. Report on research study. This should include objectives/purpose, method, results and conclusion (visit: www.ispcan.org/congress2010/abstractsample.html to see a sample.)
  b. Program, technique, policy description (including theoretical basis) with evaluation data of outcome or implementation
  c. Program, technique, policy description (including a theoretical basis) without evaluation data of outcome. This is a conceptual paper. A rationale for why this should be accepted without data must be included in abstract.
  d. Skills development (list what specific skills are covered in the presentation)
9. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit only one presentation as main authors in any presentation format.
