Good Practices and Limitations of Child Protection Work in South Africa - Joan van Niekerk, M MED, SC National Coordinator – Childline, South Africa
Working in child protection in South Africa has many challenges. Apart from South Africa’s status as a developing country the safety and protection of children is compromised by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, its impact on families and communities, high levels of poverty and criminal violence. However extensive law reform with regard to child protection brings a sense of hope and renewed enthusiasm among child protection workers. Implementating and financing these policies remains a challenge.
