Social Events |

We will be providing an interesting and informative scientific programme for delegates during the Congress, but we also recognise the importance of networking, sight-seeing and – just having fun! To guarantee this, we have designed a varied Social Events Programme throughout Congress. Some of these events, such as the Welcome Reception, the ‘Jam’ session and the Charity Auction are included in the cost of Congress. Others, such as the Congress Dinner and the Reception at the Castle Museum, are subsidised but will require delegates to pay an additional charge.

Sunday 3 September, Welcome Reception, University of York

There will be a Drinks Reception at the University of York to welcome delegates to the Congress and to provide them with the opportunity to meet each other in an informal setting.

Monday 4 September, National Rail Museum, York

York is renowned as the birthplace of railways and locomotives and one of its most famous attractions is the National Rail Museum. This magnificent venue will provide the setting for the Congress Dinner.

The evening will begin with a drinks reception in the Great Hall surrounded by some of the finest locomotives in the collection. Then delegates will have the unique experience of dining amongst carriages set against the backdrop of the Edwardian era.

There will be traditional entertainment during the evening and an amusing appearance by a historical figure

Tuesday 5 September Castle Museum, York

At the drinks reception on Tuesday evening, delegates will be able to experience life as a Victorian in York’s award-winning Castle Museum. They will walk down cobbled streets and peer through the shop windows of yester-year. They will journey through four hundred years of life in Britain, from parlours to prisons, from marriages to mill houses.

Music ‘Jam’ Session

Music is a wonderful medium for fostering interaction among people, so delegates are encouraged to bring along their musical instruments and be part of an International Jam Session.

Charity Auction

We will be holding a Charity Auction at the Congress so we would like delegates to bring with them small items that are typical of their culture, country or region and to donate these to the auction.
