Dr. Richard Krugman (USA) will be receiving ISPCAN’s C. Henry Kempe Lecturer Award. This award is being presented to Dr. Krugman in recognition of his 40-year career in the field of Child Abuse and Neglect. Upon his acceptance of this award, Dr. Krugman will deliver the Kempe Memorial Lecture to inspire and educate other professionals in the field.
Vidya Reddy from the Tulir-Centre for the Prevention and Healing of Child Abuse (India) will be receiving ISPCAN’s C. Henry Kempe Award for her inspiring devotion to providing help to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse in India by influencing local and national policy and practice.
This year, ISPCAN has selected two teams to receive its Multidisciplinary Team Award - The Center for Child Protection in Croatia and The Public Health and Medicine Development Fund of Georgia. These two organizations have made substantial progress in the treatment of child abuse and neglect within their local communities.
Dr. Lai Yun-Ho (Singapore) and Mohd. Sham Kasim (Malaysia) are being recognized through ISPCAN’s Distinguished Career Awards for their outstanding dedication, expertise and contribution to the field of child abuse and neglect. Combined, they have nearly 50 years of family-focused and child-centric work that has helped children, families, communities and professionals within their respective countries. Also, is ISPCAN’s Distinguished Service Award that will be presented to Mary Roth (USA) for her individual commitment to ISPCAN as its Managing Editor of Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal.
ISPCAN proudly presents Yehualashet Mekonen Abegaz (Ethiopia) with its President’s Award. This award was selected for Yehualashet Mekonen Abegaz for his work with the African Child Policy Forum and research on behalf of African children. He exemplifies the ISPCAN mission and remains committed to preventing child maltreatment.
The C. Henry Kempe Award, established in 1984, is presented every two years by ISPCAN to an outstanding young professional or organization working in any discipline in the field of child abuse and neglect.

The Kempe Lectureship was established in 1986 as a major feature of ISPCAN’s international congresses. Following the example of Dr. Kempe, the individual selected to deliver the Kempe Memorial Lecture must have made significant contributions to the welfare of children, and demonstrate teaching experience. The 2008 Lecturer will be an invited speaker at ISPCAN’s 17th International Congress, and the Kempe Memorial Lecture may be published in Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal.
Nominations for the 2008 C. Henry Kempe Award and Kempe Lecture Award should detail the nominee’s accomplishments and the rational for his or her selection. For the Kempe Lecture Award, include in the statement an assessment of the nominee’s speaking abilities, the topics on which he or she can speak, and the topic’s interest/relevance to participants. Nominees for these two awards must indicate in writing their willingness to participate in the Congress. Travel expenses (airfare), accommodations, and Congress registration for the recipients of these two awards will be covered by ISPCAN and the Congress.

The Multidisciplinary Team Award recognizes a multidisciplinary team that has made substantial progress in the treatment or prevention of child abuse and neglect in its local community. The award may be given to the team as a whole, or to the individual who developed and led the team.

Honorary Membership Award – Each year ISPCAN awards Honorary Memberships to child abuse and neglect prevention professionals working in developing countries. The program aims to extend ISPCAN membership to those who might not otherwise be able to join ISPCAN. Twenty-five professionals are selected each year, providing fifty two-year honorary memberships in place annually. Awardees receive all ISPCAN benefits for two years, including a complimentary subscription to Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal.
