Course name: Comunicación sobre violencia

Description: (Spanish only) Hablar sobre la violencia despierta sus emociones y las de su interlocutor. En un e-college, el Profesor Adriaenssens, psiquiatra infantil y juvenil, habla sobre el funcionamiento del cerebro cuando se mantienen conversaciones relacionadas con la violencia doméstica. Lo explica con diversas animaciones y con vídeos de casuística. Aprenderá cuál es la actitud básica adecuada, qué técnicas de conversación puede utilizar y cómo puede aprovechar los conocimientos de los padres. Algunas de las preguntas que se plantearon en el college fueron, entre otras: ¿Cómo se puede reconocer una intensificación de las emociones? ¿Qué zonas del cerebro están activas durante una conversación? ¿Qué técnicas de comunicación sirven de ayuda cuando las emociones dificultan una conversación? ¿Cuáles son los aspectos más importantes de una actitud básica? Course name: Communicating about violence - Peter Adriaenssens

Description: Talking about violence evokes emotions in yourself and in the other person. During a webinar, Professor Adriaenssens, child and youth psychiatrist, tells about the functioning of the brain during discussions about domestic violence. He illustrates this using various animations and video case studies. You will learn what a good basic attitude is, what interview techniques you can use and how you can utilize the expertise of parents. Questions included in the webinar are, among others: how do you recognize escalating emotions? Which areas of the brain are active during a conversation? Which communication techniques help if emotions obstruct a conversation? What are important aspects of a basic attitude? This course lasts approximately 35 minutes.

Course name: Prevention and early recognition of child sexual abuse - Eileen Vizard, Joan van Niekerk, & Arnon Bentovim (1/3)

Description: This course consists of three chapters. Each chapter is presented by an international authority in the area of dealing with child abuse and in particular sexual abuse: Dr. Eileen Vizard, child and adult psychiatrist, tells about the background of sexual abusers and about the role that parents and professionals can play in prevention and early recognition of abuse. You will also learn how you can react effectively to early signs. Joan van Niekerk, MSc and social worker, tells why it is important that professionals pay attention to boys and men in order to thus prevent them from becoming sexual abusers. She tells about the role that men and boys play in parenthood and how you as a professional can make a positive contribution to this. Dr. Arnon Bentovim, Child and Family Psychiatrist, explains to you how – on the basis of the seven stages model – you can carry out an adequate assessment, analysis and intervention when you suspect that a child has been sexually abused and/or is being abused and neglected. The course includes a catalogue with additional information about sexual abuse of children, prevention and early recognition of sexual abuse and about the seven stages model. This course lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Course name: The importance of medicine in evaluating child sexual abuse – Martin Finkel (2/3)

Description: This course is presented by Dr Martin Finkel, Professor of Paediatrics and an international authority in the area of the treatment of sexually abused children. You will learn how you as a doctor can deal professionally with children who have possibly been sexually abused. You will learn what you should watch out for in the anamnesis (preliminary case history) that you take during the medical examination. Martin Finkel explains how you can take this anamnesis in such a way that this results in a great deal of information and is also supportive and therapeutic for children. The course includes an extensive catalogue with additional information about sexual abuse of children and about taking the anamnesis of children who have possibly been sexually abused. She tells about the importance of working in multidisciplinary teams when professionals suspect that a child has been abused or ill-treated. You will learn how the rights of the child can be of support in this, the best way of composing such teams and which important preconditions play a role in this.
